Privacy Policy
Last updated October 15, 2026
Hersider's AI characters remember what you tell them so they can coach you better. That's personal, and we treat it that way. This policy explains what Ask Earl LLC, which runs Hersider, collects, why, and the choices you have.
What changed on October 15, 2026: we added what we collect when you buy a membership (through Stripe) and when you use Rate my text and when you create a Rate my text group vote, and a link to our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy.
What we collect
Chat messages: what you type to a character is sent to our AI provider to write her reply. So she can pick up where you left off, we store your most recent messages with each character (about the last 24, yours and hers) on our servers; older messages roll off as you keep chatting. Messages from a crisis or safety moment are not kept. The chat page also keeps the current conversation in your browser.
Memory: the character saves short notes from your chats, like "dating Sarah, second date Friday", plus a few recent topics and a follow-up she plans to ask about. These, and your recent messages, are tied to a random ID stored in your browser, not to your name.
Keep your chats on any device (only if you use it): you enter your email and we email you a 6-digit code. We store a one-way scrambled (hashed) version of your email, not the email itself, and link each device where you enter the code to it, so a character's memory and recent messages follow you. Codes expire after 10 minutes. When you log in, your browser keeps a random sign-in token (we store only a scrambled version of it, with the device it was issued to and when) so you stay logged in and can see your past messages; it expires after 180 days, and "Sign out" cancels it.
Safety and age signals: whether care mode is on after a crisis signal, when the "not a human" notice was last shown, and a flag if the chat was locked because the user seemed to be under 18.
Email: if you join as a founding member or leave an email to keep chatting, your email address and where you joined from (for example, which character and which link).
Check-ins (only if you turn them on): if you tap yes when a character offers to check in on you, we store your browser's push notification address and keys, your timezone, and when we last checked in. If you tick "email me when she checks in", we store your email, the consent wording you agreed to, and when. A check-in is one short message about the move she gave you or a follow-up you planned, written by our AI from her memory notes about you. At most 1 a day and 3 a week (email: 2 a week), never during care mode, and they stop after 2 go unanswered until you come back.
Usage counts: to keep free use fair, we count requests per day using one-way scrambled (hashed) device and network identifiers, and we keep anonymous counts of things like replies sent and crisis resources shown. These counts contain no messages and no names.
Membership (only if you buy one): Stripe, our payment processor, collects your card details and email to bill you; we never see or store your card number. We store your email, your Stripe customer and subscription IDs, your plan, its status and renewal dates, and the scrambled device ID you bought from, so your membership works in the chat.
Rate my text (hersider.com/rate): the text or short conversation you paste is sent to our AI provider, Anthropic, to grade it, and is not stored by us. If you choose "ask the group", we create a vote link and store, for 72 hours, a scrambled fingerprint of your text (which cannot be turned back into the text), Val's score, her line and her suggested rewrite, and the vote counts. Your original text is stored only if you tick "show my text on the vote page"; it is then visible to anyone with the link and is deleted with the vote after 72 hours. Initials you type for a share card stay on your device. Share cards are made on your device and are not uploaded to us. We also keep anonymous counts, such as how many texts were graded or votes cast, and a scrambled device ID to limit how often each device can use the tool.
Sensitive information
Conversations may include sensitive information about your sex life, sexual health, or mental health. We use it only to coach you, never for advertising, and never to build profiles for others, and we never sell or share it. Our characters are told not to save crisis, health, or sexual details as memory notes. You can delete what a character remembers at any time. We use sensitive personal information only to provide the service you asked for, as allowed under California law, so we don't offer a separate "limit the use of my sensitive personal information" request: that limit already applies. Washington, Nevada and Connecticut residents: see our Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy at hersider.com/health-data.
Memory
Characters save short notes from your chats, and keep your most recent messages, so they remember you next time. To erase both, use "Forget what she knows about me" at the bottom of the chat: it deletes that character's notes and stored messages for you, on every device linked to your email. Clearing your browser's site data also disconnects you from those notes. To have everything deleted on our side, email us. We also use de-identified, aggregate conversation statistics (for example, how many moves were tried and how they went, never names or what you wrote) to measure and report outcomes.
Safety
Messages are checked automatically for safety, including signs of crisis or that the user is under 18. When a crisis signal appears, the character points you to people who can help, like 988. We keep only anonymous counts of crisis resources shown, which we may report to the California Office of Suicide Prevention as required by law. No human reads your chats unless you report a message, you ask us for support, or the law requires it. See hersider.com/safety.
AI processing
Our characters run on Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic. Your messages, the character's saved notes about you, and the recent conversation are sent to Anthropic to write each reply and to run the safety check. If you turned on check-ins, her memory notes about you are also sent to write each check-in. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic does not use this data to train its models.
Who else is involved
We use a small number of service providers, each only for what they do for us:
Supabase, to store memory notes, recent messages, emails, and usage counts.
Anthropic, to write replies, grade texts on hersider.com/rate, and run the safety check.
Stripe, to process payments and manage memberships.
Resend, to send our emails, and Google Workspace for our team inbox.
Your browser's push service (for example Google, Apple, Mozilla or Microsoft), to deliver check-in notifications if you turn them on. The message is encrypted so only your device can read it.
Our website host, to serve hersider.com.
We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect someone's safety.
Advertising
We don't use your conversations for advertising, and we never share chats with ad platforms. Our website may use conversion measurement for our own ads.
How long we keep it
Memory notes are kept while you keep chatting, until you erase them or ask us to. Recent messages are capped at about the last 24 per character and are deleted automatically after 90 days without a chat, or right away when you use "Forget what she knows about me". Login codes are deleted within a day. Emails stay on our list until you ask to be removed. Anonymous counts are kept. When you ask us to delete your data, we remove it within 30 days, and from backups within 90.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to see, correct, delete, or get a copy of your data. We don't sell or share your personal information, and we won't treat you differently for using your privacy rights. California and other state residents can make these requests at hello@hersider.com. We'll respond within 45 days. To stop our emails, reply "remove" to any of them. To stop check-ins, tap "Stop check-ins" at the bottom of the chat, turn off notifications for hersider.com in your browser or phone settings, or use the one-tap unsubscribe link in any check-in email. Check-in details are deleted when you ask us to delete your data.
Age
Hersider is for adults 18 and older. If we learn a user is under 18, we lock the chat for them. A parent or the user can email us and we'll delete their data, keeping only what's needed to keep the chat locked.
Where we operate
Hersider is offered in the United States. We don't offer it in the EU, EEA, or UK at this time.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and stored with access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we work hard to protect what you share.
Changes
If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll post the new version here with a summary of what changed before it applies.
